Welcome to Mill Hill Sports Club!

Clubhouse

History
The club was founded in the 1880's, when the local council granted a 100 year lease on Bunns Hill Lane ground for the local cricket club. The ground layout saw very little change in the first 75 years, but as the North West London location became more desirable, so changes occurred. Originally a quiet idyllic location, the building of the M1 motorway beyond the deep square leg boundary meant the introduction of the now landmark Poplar trees. As well as providing a noise and sight block from the road and railway, it also provided a screen to save batsmen and bowlers blushes from unwanted eyes.

During the late 1950's, the cricket section wanted to expand, mainly to get away from their wooden club hut with washing facilities provided by a steel bucket!. Also, once the cricket season was over, the men had nothing to do for 6 months, and their wives were determined to get them out of the house on a Saturday. So, a hockey section was started, and two pitches alongside the cricket square were marked out. With the influx of new members, a fund was created, and the current club house was planned. It soon became obvious that if an all week all year sport was attracted, then a spectacular new facility could be built. So, the squash section was created.

The current club house has had many extensions since it was originally built. A managers flat was built, an additional new championship squash court put up, the bar and changing room extended (and women's changing facilities added), a gym added. Outside, buildings for machinery were built and a new score board put up. And all the time, the original vista for the cricket square and grounds were retained.

Over the last 10 years, three new sections have been added to the clubs membership. Firstly, in line with the gym, a separate section was set up. The current gym is weight focussed, but there are plans to increase the cardio vascular equipment available. Later, a local SoftBall team made there home in our grounds, and are now a full part of the club organisation. Finally, and most recently, an adult and youth football team applied to join, and since 2000 have been a full member of the club. You can read all about these sections in the relevant sports sections links on this web site.

The club house is open to all members, family, friends, old members and visiting teams. Whilst Mill Hill is primarily a sports club, we are also a family club. We have a strong social membership, comprising many old or past players, as well as supporters of the various sections.

If you are a new reader of this web site, we hope to be welcoming you to our club house in the near future.

Location
The club is well served by road (M1, A41 and North Circular close by), Rail (Thameslink Mainline station in Mill Hill Broadway within 5 minutes walk), tube (Collingdale, Burnt Oak and Mill Hill East) and several bus routes. In addition, multiple local cab companies also serve the club house - ask the bar staff for assistance.

TO BE UPDATED
Facilities

The club has several facilities made available to members and guests (although the sports facilities are only available to members).

The bar was originally extended in 1990, and recently re decorated in 1999. The redecoration provided members with a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to unwind after a game. By mid evening, a sever drubbing could look like a game we were robbed by outrageous refereeing decisions, and a victory seems like a world cup victory.

In three open plan section, the entrance area and open area provides the main family area, with pool table, games and quiz machines, vantage points over the squash courts (which can get quite heated in league games) and slot machines. The second area provides comfortable seating and a view of our extremely large screen TV. The TV offers a full Sky TV digital service, and as a sports club, all major sports are shown, even on Pay TV.

Dominating these first two areas is our bar, which with 2 tills, can staff up to four people at a time - so you should never be waiting too long for a drink. A full range of bitters, Lagers (draught and bottled) spirits, wines and soft drinks are provided. As a members club, prices are controlled, and we try to provide 1 bitter and lager and 1 spirit at a reduced price.

The third area is our main function area, with additional seating, food service area for sports teas, dance floor area and currently a snooker table. During the year, the club hold 12 - 14 club functions, Xmas parties for the children, fancy dress (or undress), hold live bands and dj nights. Whilst the facilities can also be used for private members functions, these do not affect the sports section events.

Other facilities, for members, include a Sauna, gymnasium and men's and women's changing room facilities.

Club Management

The club is run by a general committee, made up of 3 club officers, members from each sports section and other members co opted for specific tasks (club re development, social activities, etc.)

The elected committee comprise:

Chairman - Keith Bladd. A keen football fan, Keith was primarily responsible for the introduction of the football section to the club. Keith has brought control and accountability to the club, but we all know the real power lies with his lovely wife Lynne, who has been seen escorting Keith out of the club on more than one occasion. And then there is

Vice-Chairman - Mark Hellicar

Treasurer - Robin Mace. The newest member of the committee, Robin has spent his first 12 months putting order into the club financial and operational structure. We now know what we have taken, what we are spending within a few hours of it happening. There is a rumour of a budget being put in place for this year! Robin is a current Squash member.

Secretary - Robert White

Finally, a big thank you from the whole club to Trisha Sillett and Mark Hellicar for getting this web site off the ground. Well done from us all.
